A restaurant’s main goal is obviously profit, so why should he or she care about increasing Facebook likes or growing their Twitter followers? Is growing fans by social media going to help get more covers?
Why is it necessary?
- People have the tendency to constantly review others experiences online, and most likely they will look for reviews on your restaurant and what people are saying to help them make the decision or not to pay you a visit.
- When you create engaging content, your fans are more likely to comment on your fan page. When this happens, their friends can see these comments, and increases the exposure for more people to want to try out your restaurant.
- Your competition is doing it, and if you don’t you will be at a disadvantage.
- It allows you to further build a connection with your clientele outside of the restaurant.
- It helps with your online web exposure, which in turn will give you more visits to your website, which in turn will translate into a higher conversion of those that will visit you.
Ultimately, you need to play on all mediums in today’s multi-complex multi-communication world to reach your desired target.

Just make sure you’re converting those “Likes” into actual engagement on your Facebook Page, or your Facebook fans won’t see your posts in their news feeds. (I love your idea of creating a “conversational calendar” — you wrote about it in Part 2 – Facebook Marketing for Restaurants – Building the Conversation.)
Some tips:
1) Write Facebook posts that specifically ask for engagement of some sort — “Like this post,” “Share this post,” “Answer this question,” “Tell us…,” and other calls to action (CTAs).
2) Create surveys that tap the creative ideas and dining experiences of your Facebook fans, whether they’ve dined in your restaurant or not
3) Take advantage of promoted posts — always include a CTA!
4) Use Twitter and other social media platforms to drive traffic to your Facebook Page, and to specific posts.
5) Create fun contests with prizes that get fans into your restaurant.
Create great and interesting content that will keep your Facebook Fans coming back for more and engaging with your Page. You’ll then ave the opportunity to get them into your restaurant and become brand evangelists on their own!
Thanks so much for sharing your ideas! so amazing, love the engagement tip, btw!
